Culture is often based around assumed feelings about a culture’s institutions. In reality though, every individual has a unique take on what those institutions mean to him or her.
The drawings that I’m presenting here are contained within the architectures of the institutions of states or religions, and yet, they offer no commentary on those institutions. The viewer must still come to his or her own conclusions about how they feel when confronting images of the structures that are meant to instill and support certain lines of belief.
I have found it interesting that people who see these works usually form opinions of them based upon preconceived notions. They often are ready to support their personal ideas of them based on already held positions about the cultural implications entwined with the images of those structures. It is also interesting that once those opinions are formed, seeing these drawings as suggesting something other seems to become difficult for many, or in some cases, the drawings may be taken as a criticism of those beliefs where no criticism exists.
